God is Deeply in Love with Us!
Come after me… - Mark 1:17
I ended my reflection last week with the words, ‘…turn toward Him and follow the Lamb of God.’ In Mark’s gospel this week, Jesus tells us again to “come after” Him.
Who are you following? What are you going after? Take a minute to answer these questions. Be honest with yourself. Search your heart for the answer.
I want my answer to be a resounding, I follow Jesus! Much of the time, that is true. But there are more times than I care to confess that Jesus is not who I am following. Instead, I am listening to the loud noises of this world. I see a Facebook post and it takes me to another and another and pretty soon my thoughts are so far from the good, it’s not even funny. I hear something on the news and think, “Why are people so ignorant? How can they believe that?” I sit in a meeting and someone thinks my idea is lousy, and I end up feeling that I am lousy. I am guessing you can relate.
We have to cling to Jesus, every minute of every day. We have to try to “come after” Him and Him alone. How do we do that? How do we follow Him, seek Him, come after Him? We pray! We pray! We pray! At baptism, we received the very Holy Spirit of the Lord, and we were further sealed in that Spirit at Confirmation. We have the power of the Holy Spirit to help us and to guide us in the ways of Jesus. Thanks be to God for this gift. May we call on this holy power and grow in our own holiness; that we may “come after” the One and only Lamb of God every moment of every day.
Jesus, I trust in you.
